Intake

Jonathan needed some fillings in the fall of 2018, and he had a particularly silly time. His dentist beckoned, “Turn to daddy...I know you can open wider than that...You’re faking me.” There was a lot of work to be done on Jonathan’s mouth, yet over time he found himself never actually in quite as much pain as he anticipated, but more so suffering from the pain of fearing pains that rarely ever occurred.

Perhaps it was all that sweet talking.

Abstracting this idea a notch further, Intake centers on the fear of feeling itself, all the while performing in the comparatively literal context of the strange, unpleasant, yet necessary sort of intimacy that is a trip to the dentist.
